In IPL Season 16, nothing special happened with the bat for Delhi Capitals team’s opening batsman Prithvi Shaw. In the first match against Lucknow, where Shaw returned to the arena after scoring just 12 runs, he was sacked after scoring 7 runs in the match against Gujarat. Following this, now former Indian opening batsman Virender Sehwag got mad at him, in which Sehwag even advised him to learn from Shubman Gill and Rituraj Gaikwad.
In the match against Gujarat Titans, Prithvi Shaw tried to pull in Mohammed Shami’s short ball instead of putting it down, after which he was unable to hit the ball properly and Alzarri Joseph caught his catch up the middle. After this, Sehwag said that if Shaw is to move forward in his career, then he needs to learn from Shubman Gill.
Virender Sehwag said during a chat with Cricbuzz that Prithvi Shaw has been ruled out many times while playing those shots, but he didn’t learn from his mistakes even once. You see Shubman Gill, who was Shaw’s Under-19 teammate, is playing in all three formats for the Indian team at present, but Shaw, on the other hand, is still seen struggling in IPL.
Sehwag further said in his statement that Prithvi Shaw will now have to prove himself in the IPL and try to score maximum runs. You see, Rituraj Gaikwad scored more than 600 runs in a season while Gill is continuously proving his worth as well. In view of this, Prithvi Shaw needs to bring consistency in his acting.
