Vicky Kaushal Mahavatar 2026 Release Delayed by Love & War, VFX Issues

It seems actor Vicky Kaushal’s upcoming film “Mahavatar” won’t hit screens on its planned Christmas 2026 date. This news comes as a bit of a surprise to fans. The reason for the delay points to a busy schedule for the popular star.

Vicky had a big hit recently with “Chhaava.” He shared the screen with Rashmika Mandanna in that film. Audiences really enjoyed it. After “Chhaava,” Vicky didn’t announce any new movies right away. Now, fans know he has two major projects coming. They are “Love & War” and “Mahavatar.”

The Scheduling Tug-of-War

E-Times reports hint at the reason. “Mahavatar” is pushing back its release date. It’s due to a conflict with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s “Love & War.” This epic project needs a lot of Vicky’s time. Filming for “Love & War” is set to begin in late 2024. It will continue through the third quarter of 2025. “Love & War” has a star-studded cast. It features Vicky, Ranbir Kapoor, and Alia Bhatt. This movie is slated for a March 2026 release.

Vicky’s Physical Challenges

Taking on varied roles is tough on an actor’s body. Vicky shared in an interview how he gained a lot of weight for “Chhaava,” reaching 105 kilograms. That was quite difficult for him. For “Love & War,” he’ll need to shed that weight. But for “Mahavatar,” where he plays Lord Parshuram, he’d have to bulk up again. This back-and-forth transformation presents a real challenge. “Mahavatar” also plans to use a lot of visual effects. This means a long time for post-production. It adds to the film’s total completion time.

About Mahavatar

“Mahavatar” is being produced by Dinesh Vijan. Amar Kaushik, known for directing “Stree 2,” is at the helm. Vicky Kaushal reportedly said yes to “Mahavatar” right away. He loved the idea as soon as he heard it. This film is set to be his next big release after “Love & War.” He will portray Lord Parshuram, a powerful mythological figure.
