Veer Zaara at 21: Divya Dutta’s Shabbo Role Fulfilled Lifelong Dream

The romantic drama film ‘Veer Zaara’ has officially marked 21 years since its release. To commemorate the milestone, actress Divya Dutta shared a special post on social media.

Dutta, who portrayed the character of Shabbo in the film, revealed that the role fulfilled a long-held dream. She expressed immense gratitude for the love and fame the film brought her career.

In her post, Dutta stated, “What a wonderful year. This film gave me a lot of love and fame.” She added that growing up, watching Yash Chopra’s films and being directed by him was her biggest dream.

She specifically thanked Aditya Chopra and Yash Raj Films for entrusting her with the “memorable character” of Shabbo. Dutta admitted she initially did not anticipate the character’s widespread popularity. She added that the film’s memories remain special and it “travels with me everywhere.”

Dutta extended her gratitude to the stellar cast and crew. She thanked Shah Rukh Khan, Rani Mukerji, Preity Zinta, Hema Malini, Manoj Bajpayee, Boman Irani, Amitabh Bachchan, and the late Yash Chopra.

She concluded her heartfelt message by stating, “My dream came true. Congratulations to everyone associated with this classic film on its 21st anniversary.”

‘Veer Zaara’ was released on November 12, 2004. Yash Chopra directed the film, with his son Aditya Chopra handling the writing and production.

The film stars Shah Rukh Khan and Preity Zinta in leading roles. Supporting cast members included Amitabh Bachchan, Hema Malini, Divya Dutta, Manoj Bajpayee, Boman Irani, Anupam Kher, and Kiran Kher.

The narrative follows Indian Air Force officer Veer Pratap Singh (Shah Rukh Khan) who falls in love with Pakistani politician’s daughter Zara Hayaat Khan (Preity Zinta). Veer is falsely imprisoned for 22 years before a young Pakistani lawyer, Saamiya Siddiqui (Rani Mukerji), takes on his case.
