Vasco Seabra: ‘Great Frustration’ After Squandering Two-Goal Lead

Estoril coach Vasco Seabra expressed profound frustration after his team squandered a two-goal lead in a 4-3 defeat to Arouca, emphasizing collective defensive failures.

The loss was particularly stinging for Estoril, which conceded four goals despite scoring three on the road against a formidable opponent.

Seabra highlighted the paradox of creating numerous scoring opportunities but failing to secure crucial points. “We have a great feeling of frustration. We scored three goals away, against a difficult team, and not taking points leaves us with a feeling of frustration,” Seabra stated.

He acknowledged collective responsibility for the defensive lapses. “We all fail: coach, team, and in the way we compete defensively,” he admitted.

The coach stressed the urgent need for defensive correction and tactical review during the upcoming league break. “Conceding so many goals creates discomfort and we have to review everything we have been doing,” he added.

Seabra clarified that the issue was not a lack of effort or attitude from his players. “It’s not a lack of attitude, because we worked well, we created, but we conceded goals and that has to be a collective effort,” he explained.

The team needs to “focus and shut down” during the break to address these vulnerabilities and improve their defensive solidity.
