Van der Poel points to Flanders, the Tour and the World Cups in 2023

The roadmaps of the majority of superstars in the world squad for the 2023 season were already on the table, although one of the ones that remained to be known was, until yesterday, one of the juiciest. Finally, Mathieu van der Poel revealed his calendar during the half day of Alpecin-Deceuninck in the Alicante town of Denia, and this will begin, once an exhausting cyclo-cross campaign is over with the World Championship in Hoogerheide (February 5), next March 4 at the Strade Bianche, proof that he conquered in 2021.

The sterrato The Italian will be the first contact with the competition so that the Dutchman can gain shape with a view to his big goals for the season: the Tour of Flanders, the Tour de France and the Glasgow World Cups. In the Belgian Monument, ‘MVP’ will defend the crown in search of his third title, while in the Big Boucle will leave with him clear objective of reaching Paris, since in his only two appearances he ended up abandoning: “It has not been possible to finish these two years due to circumstances. Last year he was too tired after the Giro and the year before he was thinking about the Olympic Games. The green jersey is not a goal, I don’t care much for now. I wouldn’t say no to the Tour of Flanders for the third time, but there are other Monuments as well”.

That is not the case, since taking advantage of the point of form granted by the Tour de France, Van der Poel hopes to start in the next World Cups as one of the favorites to win: “I will also go to Glasgow. It is a circuit that should suit me. I already stood on the podium there once (silver at the 2018 European). The World Cup is always an objective and this year will be no different”. If your back pain (which he already suffered in some cyclocross events during this campaign) they allow him, he will have to be counted on for everything.
