A shocking kidnapping unfolded in the Carrasco neighborhood of Montevideo on Monday evening. Around 6:30 pm, a thief hijacked a car, terrorizing its occupants.
The victims, an 86-year-old woman and her 28-year-old driver, were parked at the intersection of Avenida Rivera and Alfonso Espínola. The thief jumped into their Audi Q5, wielding a gun and issuing threats. He stole the woman’s jewelry, money, and other belongings from her purse.
As reported to News Agency, the thief beat the driver and held them hostage for nearly an hour. He then ordered them to drive to the Sarandí neighborhood in the Nuevo París area.
The kidnapper fled the scene at the intersection of 5th and 2nd streets, disappearing from view. The victims escaped unharmed and reported the crime to the police, estimating $15,000 in stolen cash, jewelry, and the woman’s purse.
Investigation Underway
Forensic experts are examining the car for fingerprints or other evidence that could lead to the kidnapper’s identification. The police are currently searching for the suspect, who remains at large.
