Unified Council dismisses the general manager of Edeeste Andrés Julio Porte

The Unified Council of Electricity Distribution Companies (CUED), dismissed the general manager of the Eastern Distribution Company (Edeeste), Andrés Julio Portes Pompianowho was appointed on August 12, 2022.

According to the president of the CUED, Manuel Bonilla, the removal is carried out “as part of the changes it makes to deal with the energy supply in its concession area.”

Instead of Portes Pompiano, Manuel Naut was designated, on an interim basis.

“This and other changes in the Edeeste company are part of the initiatives announced to solve the problems faced by the energy supply in the distributor’s concession area,” CUED explained in a press release.

For several months, citizens who receive electricity through Edeeste have expressed their discontent over the constant blackouts.

These claims have caused burning tires and user complaints through social networks. Even Edeeste has reported that the blackouts were due to some fault, the output of transformers, among other cases.

In May of this year, it was reported how this distributor, the largest in the Dominican energy system, presented a greater deficit in energy loss, with 42.2%.

In conversations with Listín Diario, On June 27, Andrés Julio Portes explained that the reasons for the constant blackouts were due to the theft of wiring and other technical losses; population growth, with 802,000 registered users, obsolete networks, irregular installations and the heat wave that increases the consumption of electrical energy.

“These are circuits that are more than 20 years old on the same power base and the same cables, in a growing population and that situation cannot be improved from one year to the next,” Portes said.

Likewise, the Unified Council of Electricity Distribution Companies reported on June 14 the Government authorized an “additional injection of resources to Edeeste to increase by 300% the capacity to attend to energy supply problemswith new equipment, increasing the personnel for the execution of electrical works, maintenance of networks and repair of faults”.

East, which includes the provinces of La Altagracia, El Seibo, La Romana, San Pedro de Macorís, Hato Mayor, Santo Domingo Este and north of Greater Santo Domingo.

According to the CUED, Mejía Naut has more than 30 years in the energy sector. From 2013 to 2020 he was operations manager of the Dominican Electricity Transmission Company (ETED). Also from 2020 to this year he has served as Edeeste’s project manager.

Naut is a professor at the Technological University of Santiago (UTESA).

With the appointment of Manuel Mejía Naut as the new General of the Eastern Electricity Distribution Company. (Edeeast), are four incumbents who have been appointed to lead this institution so far in the management of Luis Abinader.
