UNDENIABLE LEGACY

Human nature is very complex, both individually and collectively. What was considered a tribute to the original inhabitants of the America that is now the United States is now considered a way to humiliate. The franchise that manages the Major League Baseball team located in the city of Cleveland in the state of Ohio has been known as the Cleveland Indians since 1915. Born in 1901 along with the American League, they were initially Blues, Bronchos and Naps until 1914. From the next campaign they will be called Guardians, as a result of the pressure exerted by ethnic minorities, in this case the components of the descendants of the indigenous tribes that populated that territory at the arrival of the European conquerors, known as “Red Skins”. They interpret the name of the traditional team as an aggression. Given the violence that is manifesting throughout America against what smacks of colonization, the owners of the group decided to replace the name.

This delicacy of the epidermis of the descendants of the subjugated tribes glimpses a complex produced by the frustration that possibly generated the impact of knowing how backward they were compared to the advance shown by the European conqueror.

Hysteria cannot change history, and it will be even less possible to achieve such purpose by knocking down statues of their own ancestors. The advance of humanity, more for better than for worse, has occurred through the conquest of one society over another, perpetual events in the pilgrimage of the human being since he was homo sapiens.

Empires have existed since the dawn of man on the planet, denying their existence and legacy is absurd. Two thousand years before Christ the Aryans conquered what is now India from which the Indo-Europeans emerged. Since then that has been a constant in known history.

It will be possible to force sports groups to change their names or to topple statues, but it will not be possible to erase from American culture Greek philosophy, Roman law or the Renaissance, in addition to the use of the wheel and writing, a legacy of those European conquerors and elements that were unknown to the original societies of the continent.
