The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has sparked rumors about a potential event in Spain in 2025. Dana White, the CEO and president of the UFC, addressed these rumors during a post-Fight Night press conference in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. White expressed his desire to bring the UFC to Spain, possibly in a stadium, and even mentioned the possibility of the Topuria brothers fighting on the same card.
The reality is that hosting a UFC event in Spain in 2025 seemed unlikely due to the absence of available dates and a suitable venue. However, White’s recent statements have put the focus back on Spain. He stated, “When we go to Spain for the first time, it will probably be in a stadium. We hope to do it this year.” White also mentioned that he does not see any arenas in Spain that are equipped to host a UFC event, which is why he is considering stadiums instead.
White has been discussing the possibility of hosting a UFC event in Spain for some time. He said, “I’ve been talking about Spain for some time. We continue working to make it happen. With a little luck, we will do an event there this year.” He also expressed his interest in having both Topuria brothers fight on the same card, saying, “If his brother is good, I would love to see both in the billboard.”
However, it’s worth noting that fighting on the same card may not be ideal for the Topuria brothers. Aleksandre Topuria, who is set to make his UFC debut, has mentioned in an interview that fighting on the same card as his brother Ilia is not what they want. Aleksandre is Ilia’s main coach, and Ilia is also involved in Aleksandre’s training camps. Having them fight on the same card would not allow for ideal preparation.
Luckily, Spain has other high-level fighters in the UFC, such as Joel Álvarez and Dani Bárez, who could also be part of the card. Additionally, the UFC could consider signing new fighters to participate in the event.
The Topuria brothers on the same billboard?
The possibility of the Topuria brothers fighting on the same card has sparked interest. However, as mentioned earlier, it may not be the best option for the brothers. Aleksandre has stated that fighting on the same card as his brother is not ideal, and it could affect their preparation.
When we go to Spain for the first time, it will probably be in a stadium. We hope to do it this year
With a little luck, we will do an event there this year and of course, if his brother (Aleksandre Topuria) is good, I would love to see both on the billboard
In the context of a potential UFC event in Spain, Madrid’s Santiago Bernabéu stadium could be a possible venue. However, the UFC typically prefers indoor events, which could limit the options. Other cities, such as Valencia, could also be considered, with the Roig Arena being mentioned as a potential venue.
