Trump Deploys National Guard to Los Angeles Amid Immigration Protests

Troops arrive in Los Angeles.

Donald Trump sent them to calm protests against immigrant arrests. The protests started on Friday, June 6, after 44 immigrants were arrested by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Protesters clashed with police in Los Angeles County. They set cars on fire and blocked roads. Police used tear gas and flash bombs to break up the crowds.

On Saturday, June 7, protesters continued to gather. They chanted slogans and held signs. But when Trump sent in the National Guard, the situation changed.

About 300 troops arrived in Los Angeles early on Sunday, June 8. They were sent to three locations around the city. The goal is to keep the peace and prevent more clashes.

Governor Gavin Newsom criticized Trump’s decision. He said it would only make things worse. The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) also condemned Trump’s move.

But DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen said the troops are trained to handle crowds. Their job is to keep the peace and ensure protests remain peaceful.

According to cnn, the situation remains tense.
