Travis Kelce Signs $57.7M Contract To Return To Chiefs In 2026

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce has signed a three-year contract extension with a maximum value of $57.735 million, securing his return for a 14th NFL season in 2026. The deal establishes a base value of $54.735 million and features an average annual value of $19.25 million. This figure narrowly surpasses the $19.1 million benchmark held by George Kittle, returning Kelce to his status as the highest-paid tight end in the league.

The agreement includes $12 million in fully guaranteed money for the 2026 season, alongside up to $3 million in performance-based incentives. While officially designated as a three-year extension, the contract is structured with void years in 2027 and 2028 containing over $40 million in backloaded money. This financial engineering reduces Kelce’s 2026 salary cap hit to just under $5 million, providing Kansas City with immediate roster flexibility.

Kelce reaches this agreement following a difficult 2025 campaign for the Chiefs franchise. Kansas City finished the year with a 6-11 record, marking their worst regular-season performance since 2012. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes suffered a torn ACL during the campaign and missed the final three games of the schedule. The 36-year-old tight end heavily considered retirement after posting 76 receptions for 851 yards and five touchdowns, representing his lowest statistical output in over a decade.

Operating as an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his career, Kelce drew interest from other contenders but ultimately chose to remain with the only professional team he has played for. The one-year functional guarantee aligns with a potential final championship pursuit in the world of professional sports as Mahomes continues his rehabilitation process ahead of the 2026 season.
