Travis Kelce, Andy Reid Heated Argument on Sunday Night Football Sideline

Tempers flared during a heated exchange between Travis Kelce and Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid on ‘Sunday Night Football.’ The moment brought all eyes to the sidelines.

The 35-year-old Kelce and 67-year-old Reid bumped chests and faced off during the Chiefs’ game against the New York Giants. This happened at MetLife Stadium on Sunday, September 21. NBC cameras caught the intense moment during the game’s second quarter. Footage of their argument also quickly spread on X.

Play-by-play analyst Mike Tirico commented on the incident. He said, “This was while we were on the sideline during the break.” Tirico noted, “Andy Reid and Travis Kelce. We’ve seen them get heated there before. You can tell the frustration on both sides of the story.” The bench argument came as the Chiefs were struggling. They were still trying to find their offensive rhythm. This marked their first 0-2 start to a season since 2014.

Fans quickly reacted to the public display of frustration. One viewer on X quipped, “Travis Kelce shouts at someone on his team every week, hahaha.” Another person wrote, “Travis Kelce complains to Andy Reid when he is the problem. The guy is finished. He can’t even catch a simple screen pass.”

This wasn’t Kelce’s first recent outburst. His temper also flared up just last week. That happened during the team’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, September 14. It was a viral moment. The superstar tight end was seen yelling, “I’m sick of this crap,” at his teammates during a timeout. This occurred at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City. The Chiefs ultimately lost to the Eagles 20-17.

Kelce and Reid have a history of intense sideline talks. A notable one happened during Super Bowl LVIII in February 2024. During that specific exchange, Kelce grabbed Reid’s arm. He then yelled in the coach’s face. Kelce seemed upset Reid had taken him out of the game. A Chiefs teammate eventually had to pull Kelce away from his head coach.

After the Super Bowl, Kelce joked with reporters. “Oh, you saw that?” he asked. The Chiefs had just beaten the San Francisco 49ers 25-22 in overtime. Kelce added, “I’ll keep it between us, unless my microphone content tells the world, but I was just telling him how much I love him.”

Reid also addressed the argument during his post-Super Bowl press conference. He jokingly said Kelce “keeps me young.” Reid explained, “He caught me off guard.” He added, “Normally I would have given a little back, but I wasn’t on firm footing.” On that occasion, Reid shared more details. “He was coming in saying, ‘Just put me in, I score. I score,'” Reid recalled. “So, that’s really what it was. I love it. It’s not the first time. I appreciate it.”
