Jordi Torres has been proclaimed champion of the MotoE World Cup for the second consecutive year. The Spaniard is already two-time champion of the electric motorcycle championship that is held with 263-kilogram machines and has done so after a race marked by Dominique Aegerter’s first leg in the last lap.
After getting rid of Casadei in the first lap, the Spaniard was preparing to launch himself towards victory, but the Swiss reached his wheel two laps from the end. Aegerter was the only one at the time who could ruin the HP Pons 40 driver’s title, but he needed a carom that he himself unsportsmanlike looking for …
Before starting the last round of the season in Misano, Torres led with an 8-point advantage over Aegerter. That is to say, it was enough for the Catalan to be second to finish off the title in the event of his rival’s victory. He made three slightly strained overtakes on the penultimate lap, with which the Zorruno regained the lead at the exit of the turn. It was a Márquez-Bagnaia from a week ago in Alcañiz. Already in the last lap, the one with the Dynavolt Intact GP returned to the charge in the same way the first time and, in the second, which was the fifth of the total, he passed more than three towns in turn 14 where he looked for direct contact with a Torres that he threw down.
Aegerter was able to miraculously stay on his feet and cross the finish line first, but a subsequent and very just sanction of 38 seconds to Aegerter, the equivalent of a ride through, for irresponsible driving, he returned the title to a Torres who had received the flag while crying, in thirteenth place and saying no with his finger, that he was not worth it that way. He was absolutely right in the world and Race Direction did justice.
In the end, the victory was inherited by Ferrari, who was accompanied on the podium by Casadei and Pons, Aldeguer was seventh and María Herrera eleventh on the day that Torres was proclaimed two-time champion, in the end seven points of rent on an Aegerter who later had the decency to congratulate him and apologize to him.
