Tiago Antunes at the Tour of Luxembourg

Tiago Antunes is on a roll. Fresh off the news of his call-up for the World Championship in Rwanda, set for September 21-28, the Portuguese cyclist hit the road again. On Wednesday, he proved to be Efapel’s top performer during the first stage of the Tour of Luxembourg, keeping his strong season momentum going.

Antunes, who previously secured an impressive fifth place in the Tour of Portugal, crossed the finish line in 25th place. He was right there with the main group, the peloton, a solid start for him personally. The stage win went to Frenchman Romain Grégoire from the Groupama team, showing the high level of competition in the race.

His American teammate, Keegan Swirbul, also put in a good effort for José Azevedo’s squad. Swirbul finished 47th, just 29 seconds behind the main pack. As a team, Efapel wrapped up the inaugural stage as the 13th best out of 20 competing groups. Many of these teams are big names from the World Tour circuit, making Efapel’s performance a respectable one.
