A third-division Spanish club dramatically upset top-flight Real Oviedo in the Copa del Rey, securing a 4-2 victory after extra time and intensifying Oviedo’s ongoing struggles in the national league.
Ourense, the lower-tier side, twice came from behind during regulation play. They forced extra time with a pivotal goal in the 94th minute of the match. The team then dominated the additional periods, scoring two more goals to seal their progression.
Brekalo opened the scoring for Oviedo with a penalty at 17 minutes. Jerin Ramos equalized for Ourense at 53 minutes. Luka Ilic restored Oviedo’s lead eight minutes later.
Aymane Jelbat’s late goal at 90+4 minutes leveled the score at 2-2, taking the first-round match into extra time. Omar Ouhdadi then put Ourense ahead at 98 minutes. Amin Bouzaig followed with a goal at 114 minutes to secure the surprising win.
Oviedo’s Adrian Guerrero missed a penalty in the 122nd minute, denying his team a late consolation goal.
This defeat deepens the crisis for Real Oviedo, which currently sits second-to-last in Spain’s top division, La Liga. The club has only seven points from 10 matches, matching last-place Girona. Their poor league form had already put them in a precarious position.
While Oviedo faltered, other top-tier teams advanced more comfortably. Getafe secured a massive 11-0 victory over Inter Valdemoro. Valencia, with Portuguese midfielder André Almeida playing the full match, defeated Macarena 5-0.
Sevilla beat Toledo 4-1. Real Sociedad eliminated Negreira with a 3-0 score. Girona, despite its similar league struggles to Oviedo, managed to progress after a hard-fought 3-2 extra-time win against fifth-division Constà ncia.
