A coach who led the esports organization FURIA to its first-ever League of Legends title and qualification for major global tournaments has unexpectedly departed, citing a desire to be closer to family and pursue new regional opportunities. Thomas “Thinkcard” Slotkin, the American coach, announced his resignation from FURIA’s League of Legends team on Thursday, October 16, surprising the global esports community.
FURIA, an organization known as FUR, confirmed Slotkin’s departure via a statement on social media platform X, formerly Twitter. The organization stated that it had mutually agreed to his request to seek new professional challenges in a different region and to prioritize family proximity.
Slotkin’s tenure with FURIA began on November 7, 2024, when he was brought in to lead the organization’s League of The Americas (LTA Sul) project. During his brief but impactful time, he guided the team to an unprecedented championship title by winning the second stage of the LTA Sul tournament. This victory also secured FURIA’s qualification for two prestigious international events: the Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) and the Esports World Cup (EWC).
His departure comes just one month shy of his one-year anniversary with the Brazilian organization, leaving the championship-winning team at a crucial juncture as they prepare for global competitions.
