The President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, and the Minister of Housing and Buildings, Carlos Bonilla, delivered thehe first 500 apartments of the Mi Vivienda Ciudad Modelo project, in Santo Domingo Norte.
Built on 123 thousand square meters, the work will have a total of 1,760 apartment units that include 1,496 homes with 3 bedrooms and 264 with 2 bedrooms. This urban development also has a playground, basketball court, parking for vehicles and engines, as well as a large green area expanded over 15,784 meters.
With a total investment of RD$4,565 millionit is expected that “Mi Vivienda Ciudad Modelo” will positively impact the economy of the area, in addition to the construction sector of Santo Domingo Norte, where it has already generated more than 3,900 direct and indirect jobs.
During the delivery event, President Luis Abinader expressed that one of the great challenges that he has pending as a country is to put an end to the housing deficit accumulated for decades in the Dominican Republic.
“A deficit that we inherited from previous administrations, which did not do enough to comply with the constitutional mandate that recognizes the right to decent housing for Dominicans and that indicates the role that the State must play to make that right effective,” added the first president.
In addition, he stressed that the government’s role is to pay immediate and special attention to the issue of housing; taking necessary steps for the creation of a national strategy for the improvement and construction of new housing throughout the country, as part of the public policies developed by the government, through the Ministry of Housing and Buildings.
Mi Vivienda Ciudad Modelo is part of the My Vivienda housing plan promoted by the central government. To date, MIVED has already delivered 1,060 Plan Mi Vivienda apartments, distributed in the Gran Santo Domingo and Santiago de los Caballeros projects.
“This project, once again, shows the great commitment of our institution and our work team, since in a record time of 13 months we are delivering the first 500 apartments,” said Minister Carlos Bonilla during the ceremony.
In addition to Ciudad Modelo, in the city of Santo Domingo, the Ministry of Housing and Buildings is building housing projects in Hato Nuevo and San Luis; while in the northern zone the La Barranquita and Los Salados projects are being executed.
Raquelina Vasquez, a teacher at an educational center and mother of 3 teenagers, was one of the beneficiaries who today becomes the owner of her home. She expressed her gratitude to the President and Minister Bonilla and said “There are no words that describe my happiness, I feel in a very special moment of life; they are years paying rent for a house and without a hope of having their own home until this day ”.
The administrator of Banco del Reservas, Samuel Pereyra, reported that through the facilities of an attractive interest rate of 8%, fixed for 6 years, much lower than those currently in force in the private market, which rise to approximately 14% for one year.
On behalf of the beneficiaries, the Vargas and Martínez Adames families were receiving their keys, who expressed their joy for their new home.
Present at the event, along with President Abinader and Minister Bonilla, were officials from the Santo Domingo province, such as Antonio Taveras Guzmán, Senator of the Province; Betty Gerónimo and Lucrecia Santana, deputies for the province; Mrs. Julia Drullard, Governor; among other public sector figures.
