According to Deadline, Gustafson’s death occurred after a heart attack. The Mexican film director himself confirmed the death of his colleague on social networks.

Guillermo Del Toro confirmed Mark Gustafson’s death

“I have always admired Mark, even before I met him. A pillar of stop motion animation, a true artist“wrote Del Toro in a post on X (formerly Twitter), in which he also shared a photo of the two together.

“A compassionate, sensitive and bitingly funny man. A legend and a friend who inspired and gave hope to everyone around him“, added the Mexican. According to Guillermo’s post, Mark Gustafson passed away yesterday, February 1st.
