The Prime Minister of Haiti warns that the country “cannot wait any longer” and urges to hold the elections

El primer ministro de Haití advierte de el país "no puede esperar más" e insta a celebrar las elecciones

The Prime Minister of Haiti, Ariel Henry, warned this Tuesday that a "consensus" to hold elections in the country and that you cannot wait for "renew political staff", since a return to democratic order is "essential".

"The country cannot wait any longer. Therefore, we have a duty to find a consensus around lasting solutions to this chronic crisis. Elections must be organized so that there are new elected positions. What I am sure of: there will be no new president on February 7, 2022", he said on his official Twitter profile.

He has also insisted that the reins of the country should be handed over to an elected president, in relation to the one proposed by the Haitian diaspora. In addition, he has said that he does not want to act in a "unilateral", so that "in the coming days, with the collaboration of all parties", it will end "to the consultation process with a view to achieving the final result".

"For me it would have been easier to set up a Provisional Electoral Council (CEP)", has added. In September 2021, Henry dismissed CEP, led by Guylande Mésadieu, after receiving strong criticism from the opposition and the population.

Thus, the presidential and legislative elections in Haiti were postponed indefinitely. Henry announced less than a week ago that he was going to remain in office until new elections were held, thus rejecting the claims of some political platforms that demanded his departure on February 7.

On the other hand, the Haitian president has highlighted this Tuesday that while he is in charge of the Executive he will "everything in your reach" for what "do justice to President Jovenel Moise": "As I promised upon my arrival, I will continue to seek legal assistance in the context of the investigation of this horrific murder.".

Since the assassination of the president, Jovenel Moise, on July 7, the always turbulent political and economic situation in Haiti has been hit even harder. Soon the power vacuum degenerated into a security crisis, with daily murders and kidnappings, especially in large areas of the capital.
