In 2021 it is estimated that the industries dedicated to the manufacturing of plastic products generated 41,485 throughout its value chain.
Of these, the 38.2% were generated directly In plastic production in the country, 47.8% was created indirectly and 14.0% induced.
The statistic comes from the study “Contribution of the Plastics Sector to the Dominican Economy”, carried out by the firm Despradel y asociados (DASA) and had the support of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and MSMEs (MICM), the Dominican Association of the Plastics Industry (Adiplast) and the Plastics Training and Research Center (CCIP).
According to the research, the companies involved in the plastics value chain generated an added value of 1.2% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), directly and indirectly.
He plastics sector and its entire value chain contributed RD$ 11,127 million to the treasury in 2021 in terms of taxes, of which direct tax contributions represented 34.8%.
In that year, exports of plastic products reached US$546 million, which means 4.7% of the total exports of the Dominican economy.
