The music world is mourning the loss of Rick Buckler, the drummer for the iconic punk and new wave band, The Jam. Buckler passed away on February 17 at the age of 69, although the news only became public recently.

The Jam was one of the most popular bands of the 1970s, known for their unique blend of punk and new wave sounds. Buckler was an integral part of the band’s classic lineup, which also included Bruce Foxton on bass and vocals, and Paul Weller on vocals and guitar. This talented trio formed the core of The Jam from 1972 to 1982, when the band ultimately disbanded.

According to a statement from Buckler’s management team, he died peacefully on a Monday afternoon in Woking, surrounded by his family, after a brief illness. The statement simply said, “We will miss him very much.” Buckler’s passing has sent shockwaves through the music community, with many fans and fellow musicians taking to social media to pay their respects to the legendary drummer.

After The Jam disbanded, the members went their separate ways. While the band never officially reunited, Buckler and Foxton did play together on a few occasions under the name “From the Jam.” Meanwhile, Paul Weller went on to become a highly influential figure in the Britpop movement, both as a solo artist and as a member of the Style Council.

Weller recently reacted to the news of Buckler’s passing, expressing his shock and sadness on Instagram. “I’m in shock and sad for Rick’s death,” he wrote, recalling the early days of The Jam and the countless hours they spent rehearsing and playing gigs together. Weller also sent his condolences to Buckler’s family and loved ones.

In addition to his work with The Jam, Buckler was a talented writer and had authored several books. He was also a skilled furniture designer and had a passion for creating unique and functional pieces. At the time of his passing, Buckler had been scheduled to embark on a UK tour, dubbed “A Night of Memories and Music,” which would have featured a series of Q&A sessions and performances. Unfortunately, the tour had to be postponed due to his health issues.

Buckler’s legacy as a drummer and a musician will be remembered for years to come, and his contributions to The Jam’s iconic sound will continue to inspire new generations of music fans. As news of his passing spreads, fans around the world are taking a moment to appreciate the incredible music and memories that Buckler helped create during his time with The Jam.
