The DNA on the sweet potato caught the killer

Massachusetts: In a case of murder in America, the DNA on the sweet potato caught the killer.

According to American media, a suspect in a 12-year-old Massachusetts murder case has been identified through the DNA of the suspect on the sweet potato.

DeVross Hampton, 40, is accused of killing Todd Lampley, a 31-year-old man, in the village of Haynes on Feb. 27, 2011, but the charge has not yet been proven in court, according to police officials.

According to police, Hampton shot and killed Todd through the bedroom window of his home, killing Todd, a father of several, on the spot.

Prosecutors told the court on Monday that law enforcement agencies recovered a black mobile phone from the crime scene along with a yam. When investigated, the cell phone was registered to the name of ‘Marlo Stanfield’, a fictional character from the HBO program ‘The Wire’.

The district attorney told the court that a yam was used as a pistol silencer in the said TV show as well.

According to witnesses, on the night of the incident, the killer was watching a basketball game on TV with the victim, then left the room to make a phone call, but returned shortly after and opened fire.

Attorneys said that at the time of the shooting, Hampton was wearing a GPS bracelet monitor, which he had been wearing because of a previous crime, and that the monitor’s GPS records showed he was there at the time of the crime.

According to the attorney, GPS records revealed that he had thrown the murder weapon into a pond, which was later recovered by fishermen.

On the other hand, the lawyer of the alleged killer Hampton said that he will vigorously defend his client in this twelve-year-old case.
