Thanks to the method, researchers were able to estimate an age of appearance and extinction for each of the species, in a period that goes from 145 million years ago, at the end of the Cretaceous, to 66 million years, just before the disaster. . “We found a peak of diversity before 76 million years ago, with a high rate of creation of new species.
