Thailand Seeks Newbie Chef for Global K-Food Competition in South Korea

Korean BBQ sauce is about to get a Thai twist. A competition is on to find the best young chef who can create delicious dishes using Korean sauce with a Thai spin. The winner will get a chance to compete in the “K-Food Global Hidden Master Competition” in South Korea.

The contest, called K-Sauce Crossover Challenge: Thai Twist & Zero Waste, is happening on June 5th at Kasetsart University in Bangkok. The winner will get 45,000 baht and a free trip to South Korea for the international competition.

The event is all about reducing waste and getting creative with food. Chefs will have to make dishes using Korean sauce and Thai ingredients without throwing away any food. The goal is to show how Thai food can be a leader in the global culinary scene.

A team of experts from the Korean Cultural Center, the Thai-Korean Friendship Association, and top food media outlets will judge the competition. They will pick the top 12 teams out of over 100 applicants to compete in the final round. The winner will be crowned the “Thai Zero Waste Chef Champion” and will represent Thailand in the international competition in South Korea.

This competition is part of a bigger event called the Namdo International Culinary Expo 2025, which will happen from October 1st to 26th in South Korea’s South Jeolla province. The expo will bring together champions from 13 countries to showcase their cooking skills and compete for the top prize.

The Korean ambassador to Thailand, Park Yong-min, will attend the event and congratulate the participants. The competition is a chance for young Thai chefs to show off their skills and creativity on the global stage.
