Terrorist attack on five-star hotel in Somalia, 12 people killed

Mogadishu: At least twelve people were killed in an attack on a hotel by extremists in Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu.

According to a foreign media report, twelve hostages have been killed while ending the siege of a well-known hotel in Mogadishu.

A Mogadishu security officer said that Al-Qaeda-linked al-Shabaab militants claimed responsibility for the attack.

Al-Shabaab militants had taken the people hostage in the hotel on which the security forces had launched an operation last evening, loud explosions and gunfire were heard from the hotel this morning.

According to the security officials, twelve people were killed, including the hotel owner, after the 20-hour long operation.

The Somali army is continuing operations to regain control of the hotel, with several militants still inside the hotel and sporadic gunfire.

At least 12 people have been officially confirmed dead so far, including several leading politicians.

It should be noted that after the presidential elections held in May this year, Al-Shabaab has carried out the first armed operation in the country.
