Terretugby 2024: Return of the World’s Largest Rugby Charity Event

TERRERUGBY Celebrates Seventh Edition as a Consolidated Beach Rugby Tournament

TERRERUGBY, a unique beach rugby tournament on the Almeria coast, is set to celebrate its seventh edition on July 13th at Mar Serena Beach in San Juan de los Terreros, Pulpí, Almería. The tournament will host 27 teams, with nine teams from each category, including inclusive clubs, female groups, and male teams.

The event is not only a celebration of rugby but also a charity tournament, with the proceeds going to a charitable cause. This year, the tournament will work with the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC), a non-profit organization that aims to combat cancer. According to the AECC, the number of melanoma cases in Spain increases every year, with nearly 4,000 cases diagnosed annually. Prevention and skin care are crucial factors, and TERRERUGBY will provide necessary sun protection in association with the Pulpí Local Health Plan.

Inclusive Rugby as a Flag

The inclusive category has grown significantly over the years, and this year, it will feature the same number of teams as the senior divisions. The nine teams participating in this category are Phoenician Marrajos from Adra (Almeria), Elche Inclusive Rugby from the Valencian Community, URA Clan from Almeria, Asprodesa Clan from the community, Incluindus, and Chameleons San Isidro de Madrid.

Tournament Presentation

The tournament was presented by Jose Antonio Garcia Alcaina, Vice President and Deputy for Sports of Almería, and Francisco Diaz, the organizer of TERRERUGBY, along with the authorities of the City Council of Pulpí, headed by Juan Pedro Garcia, the mayor.

"It is exciting to bring together nine inclusive teams and for the three categories to be equal in number of teams and players," said Francisco Diaz, tournament organizer. "When we started, we were clear about this challenge, but we only managed to do small exhibitions to make known the category and the values of this sport; what we are going to see in 2024 is unique on the coast and gives us strength, together with the social cause, to continue working for the tournament."
