Last week, Do Kwon, the man behind the Terra (LUNA) fiasco, was arrested in Montenegro. He tried to leave the country with false documents. The United States and his home country South Korea have since requested his extradition.
According to Montenegro’s Minister of Justice, Mark Kovac, Do Kwon will have to appear in Montenegro’s court before any extradition can be made. This was indicated by Kovac during a press conference on Monday.
Do Kwon to the US or to South Korea?
According to Kovac, local authorities have priority over an extradition process. The choice to which country Do Kwon will be extradited is a complicated process. According to Kovac, this is influenced by various factors, such as the seriousness of the charges and when the request for extradition was made.
Until that choice is made, Do Kwon will remain under arrest in Montenegro and may face charges of local crimes. The United States and South Korea have both requested Do Kwon’s laptop and other devices.
The Terra (LUNA) saga
After a lengthy manhunt, the South Korean is finally in the hands of the authorities. After the demise of Terra, which evaporated tens of billions of dollars, Do Kwon was gone. The rumors took on special proportions. The story even went around that he had fled to North Korea.
South Korea called in Interpol for the manhunt, but that was also to no avail. At all times, Do Kwon was active on Twitter and did not hide at all. However, he did not answer to the authorities either.
Then at the beginning of this year things came to a head. Legitimate sources seemed to suggest that the best man was hiding in Eastern Europe, in Serbia to be precise. Two South Korean officials even traveled to the country to track down Do Kwon. However, he was not found and it became quiet again.
So until last week. Do Kwon tried to leave the country with a private jet. However, he did this with false documents in his pocket and with that he fell through the basket. Why Do Kwon took this great risk is not clear.
