Gaming giant Ubisoft just formed a new subsidiary with a massive investment from Tencent. The Chinese conglomerate is sinking 1.16 billion euros into the venture, giving it a 25% stake in the new company.
This new subsidiary is all about building a sustainable gaming ecosystem that supports multiple platforms. Ubisoft wants to boost single-player experiences through storytelling, pump out more content to cater to diverse player needs, and offer more social features and touchpoints in free-to-play games.
The new company will focus on nurturing Ubisoft’s unique franchises, like Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon and The Division. It aims to supercharge game performance and leverage cutting-edge tech with new IPs. Meanwhile, Ubisoft will keep delivering modern game development tools and online services.
The subsidiary will comprise teams that developed games like Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six, Assassin’s Creed, and Far Cry, with bases in Montreal, Quebec, Sherbrooke, Saguenay, Barcelona, and Sofia. These teams will have access to Ubisoft’s iconic IPs and work on new and old games in development.
