Tech trends for 2023 according to CES

Last week, specifically on January 5, the CES 2023one of the most famous technology fairs worldwide and the first to be held every year organized by the Consumer Technology Association. The place where it is held is the Las Vegas Convention Center (United States) and lasts until Sunday, January 8.

The first talk they give every year is a short summary of the news and trends that we will see throughout the four days that the event lasts. This year the person in charge of this presentation was Steve Koenig, VP of the Consumer Technology Association.

What trends will we see in 2023?

Enterprise Tech Innovation

He began by talking about this trend, since he believes that more and more companies are developing technological innovations regardless of their size, and most importantly, they can adapt to the needs of each country. “Technology is increasingly tackling the world’s biggest challenges, because it holds the answer to many of those challenges.” explained Koenig.

Some of the most important challenges for him are:

  • Vulnerability in the supply chain. Container prices are declining and friction in ports around the world is easing. However, the situation in China is making us see how vulnerable the supply chain is.
  • Demand for semiconductors softens. The problem is that we are going from a shortage of chips to a potential oversupply in some cases.
  • Labor shortage. Koenig explains that technology was highly valued in the workplace before, but now the situation has changed. It is increasingly difficult to find qualified workers.
  • Inflation. This problem is gaining more and more relevance in all sectors. “The US Fed and central banks in other parts of the world are increasingly convinced that we are in this protracted battle against inflation.” stated the VP of Consumer Technology Association. One of the solutions that he believes to have this problem is the increase in productivity.

The VP of Consumer Technology Association considers that in other moments of crisis and recession there have been very important technological developments. Therefore, he believes that this time the same thing will happen and we will see great technological developments.

Finally, he shares some of the things that we will see in the next 10 years that will continue to develop and help the transformation:

  • Artificial intelligence
  • cybersecurity
  • robots
  • clouds
  • 5G
  • IoT
  • web 3.0

Metaverse/ Web 3.0

“The metaverse is closer than we imagined” started by saying Koenig. Although, it also highlighted the debate that is currently going on, because people are still very skeptical.

At CES, the development of the metaverse could be observed in two ways:

  • virtualization. We see more and more brands launch virtual reality experiences, because it is a more accessible technology for users.
  • Immersion. “There aren’t many consumers who own a VR headset yet, so a lot of companies are taking advantage of this technology that tends to be more immersive, with a lot of digital twinning, simulation, a lot of collaboration, shared experiences, but in a business context.he explained. However, this could change in the coming years when more and more users have virtual reality glasses.

“The metaverse for me is the new generation of the internet” he claimed.
