Several Top-Notch Players Anticipated to Make a Comeback in Upcoming Ranji Trophy Matches

The Indian cricket scene is abuzz with the upcoming Ranji Trophy matches, scheduled to commence on January 23. According to sources, a number of top Indian cricketers are expected to make a comeback in domestic cricket. The announcement of the squad for the Champions Trophy 2025, expected on January 18 or 19, will be a crucial factor in determining the players’ participation in the Ranji Trophy matches. Despite the impending ODI series against England, starting on February 6, players selected for the series may still have an opportunity to participate in at least one Ranji match.

Several notable players are predicted to make their comeback in the upcoming round of Ranji Trophy matches.

Leading Contenders Expected to Participate

Player Performance and Team Participation

  1. Rishabh Pant
The Indian wicket-keeper batsman, Rishabh Pant, has been a vital component of the team in Test cricket but has struggled to make an impact in the white-ball format. A report by Hindustan Times, confirmed by DDCA Secretary Ashok Sharma, indicates that Pant will participate in the match against Saurashtra, starting on January 23, representing the Delhi team. A strong performance in the Ranji Trophy matches could be Pant’s chance to silence critics.

  2. Virat Kohli
Virat Kohli’s last domestic match was in 2012, but rumors suggest he may make a comeback in the upcoming Ranji Trophy matches to recover his lost form. With increasing pressure to retire and to regain his place in the team, Kohli might opt for domestic cricket. Notably, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has stated that if Kohli and Rohit Sharma underperform in the Champions Trophy, they risk being dropped from the team.

  3. Yashasvi Jaiswal
Mumbai team player Yashasvi Jaiswal has performed well in Test and T20 teams but is now being considered for the ODI team ahead of the Champions Trophy. A media report revealed that a source within the Mumbai Cricket Association stated Jaiswal would join the practice session with the players and participate in the match against Jammu and Kashmir from January 23.

  4. Shubhman Gill
Shubhman Gill, who had an impressive Test performance recently, might be seen playing for the Punjab team in their match against Karnataka starting on January 23. With the English T20 series approaching and Gill not being selected, he has ample time to participate in the Ranji Trophy match.
