Team Asobi Aims for Playable Astro Bot Game Completion

Imagine being stuck on a never-ending puzzle, unable to move on. That’s what happens when games get too long. Nicolas Doucet, head of Team Asobi, thinks differently. In an interview with GamesRadar+, he shared his approach to creating Astro Bot, now a “game of the year” winner.

Doucet’s goal was to make a game that’s playable from start to finish, without needing hundreds of hours. He knows some players struggle to complete games due to time constraints. So, Team Asobi aimed to create a compact, high-quality experience.

The philosophy behind Astro Bot
Team Asobi’s mindset is simple: it’s okay to make smaller games. This approach benefits both the developers, who can focus on quality, and players, who can actually finish the game without feeling overwhelmed.

As Doucet explained, “We set out to create something we could fully control. It’s not just about us, but also the players. Many gamers have a backlog of unfinished games, so making a game that can be completed is a good thing.”
