Taylor Swift just keeps the surprises coming. Fans can look forward to a new six-part documentary series about her record-breaking Eras Tour. It will drop this winter, bringing viewers closer to the superstar.
Good Morning America officially shared the big news on Monday, October 13. Swift, 35, is giving her followers a special look behind the scenes. The tour itself runs from March 2023 all the way to December 2024. The first two episodes of the series will hit Disney+ on December 12. For the next two weeks, two more episodes will be released each week.
But wait, there’s more! A brand-new concert film is also coming to Disney+ this December. It’s called Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour: The Final Show. This movie will show footage from her last Eras Tour performance in Vancouver.
Swift herself spoke about the announcement on social media. She wrote, “It was the end of an era, and we knew it.” She explained that they wanted to "remember every moment" leading up to "the most important and intense chapter of our lives." Because of this, filmmakers got permission to "capture this tour and all the stories woven throughout it" as it came to an end. They also filmed "the final show in its entirety."
Ahead of the Monday reveal, Good Morning America started building excitement on Sunday, October 12. The popular morning show told fans to expect some big news from the artist behind Life of a Showgirl. Their Instagram post teased, "TOMORROW: We are 💯 with an exclusive Taylor Swift announcement! Tune in ONLY on GMA.” They even quoted lyrics from her song, "Fate of Ophelia."
Promotional clips for GMA hinted strongly at Swift’s upcoming surprise. An announcer shared some dramatic words. They said, "She’s done it again! Taylor Swift is breaking records." The announcer added, "She has the biggest album debut in history, with over 4 million units." They then asked, "And now, tomorrow morning, GMA has a big exclusive announcement about Taylor. What’s next for her?"
This news follows a very busy period for Swift. She released her twelfth studio album, Life of a Showgirl, on October 3. It quickly smashed all sorts of records. Swift spoke about this on the October 6 episode of Audacy Check In. She mentioned, "I’m trying to soak up this moment of pride and joy for what I’ve created." Swift added, "I don’t know if I’ve ever been this happy about a record before."
She found it "a bit of an unfamiliar feeling" to have so much joy. Normally, she feels "a lot of stress in the week of an album launch." Swift continued, "This week, I’m simply feeling very simple emotions about this record. That’s new." She concluded, "So I think: ‘Let’s let this feeling last a moment.’"
Swift wrote and recorded Life of a Showgirl entirely during the European leg of her groundbreaking Eras Tour in 2024. The album shares stories from her life away from the stage. A big part of that involved NFL star Travis Kelce, 36. The pop star has been dating him since summer 2023. Kelce even inspired several songs on Life of a Showgirl. These include "Honey," "Wood," "Wish List," and "Opalite."
Kelce, who reportedly proposed to Swift in August, shared his thoughts on his "New Heights" podcast’s October 8 episode. He said, "I’m just the lucky man who gets to be, you know, the support system for Taylor." He praised her new album. He called it "one of the coolest albums I’ve ever heard, that the world has seen." He added, "I’m excited for her. I’m happy for her. Everything seems to have turned out perfectly, all this planning."
He continued, "You see it from start to finish." He noted, "She started this in the middle of her Europe tour." He watched "how everything unfolded and came together." He also saw "how she connects the dots — from strategic planning to how the album was going to look." Then, he listened to the music and saw "how it all fits."
While Swift and Kelce were thrilled with the record, not everyone felt the same. Life of a Showgirl received some mixed reviews from critics and fans. However, Swift doesn’t seem to mind the varied reactions.
She told Zane Lowe on Apple Music earlier this month, "I welcome the chaos." Swift believes "the rule of show business" is quite simple. If it’s the week your album comes out and someone mentions your name or album title, "you help." She made it clear, "I’m not the art police." She feels "everyone can feel exactly what they want." For artists, she said, "our goal is to be a mirror."
