Rumors have been buzzing, but Taylor Swift is here to set the record straight. The pop superstar recently denied claims she talked about her own engagement to Travis Kelce during a speech at Selena Gomez’s wedding.
Swift, 35, addressed these whispers during her appearance on ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon’ on Monday, October 6. Host Jimmy Fallon asked her directly about the gossip – specifically, if she joked at Gomez’s nuptials that the bride beat her to the altar.
“No,” Swift clearly stated. “I did give a speech, but I actually made a point not to mention anything about my engagement.” Swift, who announced her engagement to Kelce, 36, in August, explained her thinking process: “Nobody wants you to say, ‘Hey, I know it’s your wedding day, but…’ I thought: ‘Don’t even bring it up.'” Swift even made a playful comment about hiding her engagement ring, adding, “Let me turn it around.”
When she looked back at Gomez’s special day, Swift couldn’t hide her joy about being there for her best friend. “I got to see her be the most elegant and beautiful person,” Swift gushed. “Not just as a bride, but simply—a vision like I never saw in my life.” She continued, “I have never seen anything so beautiful as her on her wedding day.”
So, when did this beautiful wedding happen? Gomez, 33, and Blanco, 37, tied the knot in September. This was almost two years after they first confirmed their relationship publicly. For several months, they kept their romance under wraps. Then, in December 2023, Gomez surprised her fans by sharing that she was dating Blanco.
She poured her heart out in an Instagram comment at the time. “He is absolutely everything to me in my heart,” Gomez wrote. “It has been the best thing that has happened to me. Period. … He is still better than anyone I have been with. Facts.”
Gomez later confirmed she had been dating the music producer for “six months.” Their working relationship began with songs like “Same Old Love” and “I Can’t Get Enough.” They kept creating music together even after their romance started. Gomez eventually announced their engagement in December 2023.
Before releasing their joint album, ‘I Said I Love You First,’ in March, both Gomez and Blanco reflected on key moments in their relationship. Gomez recalled to Interview magazine in February, “It was very simple. We went into the studio to work on a song and just talked; that’s how easy it was for me. He liked me before I liked him.”
Blanco, for his part, didn’t initially realize Gomez had feelings for him. But once he understood, he felt totally sure of their bond. “From then on, it was easy,” he shared. “You know that when you think you’ve met the right person, you think: ‘Oh, my God.’ But it feels so different.”
He added, “As soon as we started dating, I thought: ‘This is my wife.’ I used to tell my mom: ‘This is the girl I am going to marry.'” He summed it up simply: “She is my best friend.”
