The Ethiopian Takele Chernet prevailed today in the Ibiza Half Marathon with a time of 1 hour, 11 minutes and 28 seconds, a mark with which she managed to pulverize the record of the test and establish herself as the great protagonist. Chernet finished fourth in the general classification, surpassed only by the components of the men’s podium. After the Ethiopian, the Kenyan Valentine Jebet crossed the finish line in second place after investing 1 hour, 15 minutes and 53 seconds, followed by the local athlete Susana Sevillano who was third with a time of 1 hour, 25 minutes and 29 seconds. The Ibiza Half Marathon managed to reach a 40 percent female participation, a true record figure in a test of these characteristics.
In the men’s category, the Moroccan Bilal Marhoum won with a final time of 1 hour, 4 minutes and 5 seconds, far from the record of the event. that will have to wait for a new edition to be overcome. The rest of the podium was completed by the Ethiopian Melaku Birhan Aregu just 45 seconds behind the winner and the Moroccan Abdelali Razyn with 1 hour, 5 minutes and 26 seconds.
The test, starting in the municipality of Sant Josep de Sa Talaia, has started promptly at 9:30 in the morning and has been carried out normally until late in the morning, moment when the last athletes who completed the official distance of the half marathon, the only one approved by the Royal Spanish Athletics Federation in Ibiza, crossed the finish line located in the Port of Ibiza.
In the formal awards ceremony, institutions, athletes, sponsors and organization agreed to classify this edition as a resounding success, the new edition of the Ibiza Half Marathon marked by the return to normality and by high participation figures of up to 700 participants that once again place this international event in the spotlight of athletes from all over the world.
