You almost expect it now from Tadej Pogacar. The Slovenian rider just wrote his name deeper into cycling’s history books at the Tour of Lombardy. He became the first person ever to win the race five times in a row. This incredible feat also put him level with Fausto Coppi for total victories in the event.
He launched one of his signature long-distance attacks. With 36 kilometers left to race, Pogacar simply pulled away from the pack. Remco Evenepoel, riding for Sousal, struggled to keep up and finished over a minute behind. Michael Storer, from Tudor, managed to grab third place, but he was a full 3 minutes and 14 seconds adrift.
Among the Portuguese riders, Rui Costa, representing EF Education, crossed the line in 66th place. He finished 18 minutes and 12 seconds after Pogacar. Afonso Eulálio, riding for Bahrain, came in 96th, an even greater 26 minutes and 16 seconds back.
