Sweeney, 28, stars in the movie as legendary boxer Christy Martin. The film explores Martin’s life, including an attempted assassination by her husband.
During the pre-race driver introductions, Sweeney addressed the four championship contenders: Chase Briscoe, William Byron, Denny Hamlin, and Kyle Larson. She connected the intensity of the race to her character in the new movie.
"Most days, this checkered flag means victory, but today, it means something more," Sweeney told the drivers. She highlighted its representation of a dream come true, a transformed life, and an unforgettable name.
Sweeney described her character in Christy as a "warrior" and a "fighter who refuses to give up." She noted the film embodies strength and determination, mirroring the spirit required to reach the Championship Four.
The actress embraced the racing atmosphere with her attire. She wore a racing jacket, shorts, and red boots while joining the sold-out crowd.
Sweeney underwent a significant physical transformation for her role in Christy. She revealed gaining 35 pounds to embody the boxer.
Her preparation included consuming numerous protein shakes and Uncrustables. She discussed this "huge undertaking" during a Sirius XM interview on Wednesday, October 29.
Sweeney also spoke about the emotional depth of the role. She noted the profound impact of Martin’s life, encompassing growth, pain, and understanding.
She confirmed that the physical change she underwent for the film was "considerable." Sweeney previously described the movie as one of the most emotional and transformative experiences of her career.
She found inspiration in Christy Martin’s presence on set. Sweeney confessed to getting emotional seeing Martin cheer them on, moved by her endurance and triumphs.
