Sunil Gavaskar Urges BCCI to Remove Music and Dance from IPL 2025 Matches

The Indian Premier League is set to resume on May 17 after a brief pause due to heightened tensions between India and Pakistan. The decision to restart the tournament comes after a request from the Board of Control for Cricket in India to reconsider its initial suspension. Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has suggested that the IPL should tone down its entertainment factor as a mark of respect for the victims of recent violence. “I hope that in respect of what has happened and some families having lost their loved ones, the stadium is kept away from entertainment,” Gavaskar said.

Gavaskar’s Plea

Gavaskar believes that the focus should be on the game rather than the surrounding festivities. He suggested that the stadiums should not play music, have no dancers, and simply host the cricket matches. This, he feels, would be a fitting tribute to those who have lost their loved ones.

The resumption of the IPL is significant, with several crucial matches lined up. The upcoming match between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Bengaluru on May 17 is highly anticipated. An RCB win would see them become the first team to qualify for the playoffs this season, while a KKR loss would eliminate them from the competition.

Remaining Schedule

The BCCI has released the schedule for the remaining 17 matches, including the playoffs. The league stage matches will be played across six venues. However, the venues for the two qualifiers, eliminator, and final have not been finalized yet. The stage is set for an exciting conclusion to the IPL season.
