Star Cricketer’s Shocking Move Sparks Uncertainty and Raises Eyebrows

Anuj Rawat’s Priorities Raise Questions

Anuj Rawat, an experienced wicketkeeper batsman, was bought by the Gujarat Titans team for Rs 30 lakh in the IPL 2025 mega auction. He previously played for the RCB team. With the IPL 2025 still some time away, Rawat has already left the Ranji camp of the state team at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi to join the practice session of his IPL team Gujarat Titans in Surat.

Anuj Rawat Joins Gujarat Titans Camp

Rawat’s decision to join the IPL camp a week before the second phase of the Ranji season has raised questions about his priorities. The Gujarat Titans have started their preparations for IPL 2025 with a training camp in Surat, which includes players like Ishant Sharma, Jayant Yadav, Kumar Kushagra, Mahipal Lomror, and Arshad Khan, along with coaches and sports staff.

No Information Given to State Cricket Board

Ashok Sharma, convening secretary of the state team selection committee of Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA), stated that he has no information about Rawat applying to participate in the IPL team camp. Rawat abandoned the ongoing Ranji Trophy camp in Delhi without taking approval from the State Cricket Board.

Consequences of Prioritizing IPL Over Domestic Cricket

Anuj Rawat has scored 1435 runs in 34 first-class matches and 888 runs in 32 List-A matches. He has also scored 318 runs in 24 IPL matches, including a half-century. However, his decision to prioritize IPL over domestic cricket may have consequences. Last year, Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan lost their central contracts due to giving more importance to IPL than domestic cricket. They have since learned from their mistake and are playing for their respective state teams in all formats.
