The bond between Bollywood legend Sridevi and her sister Srilata was once incredibly close. Sridevi, who acted in over 300 films, was often seen with Srilata by her side at award shows and industry events. The sisters were inseparable, with Srilata even accompanying Sridevi to film sets when she started her career in 1970. Srilata was reportedly keen on pursuing a career in the film industry herself, but it never materialized, and she instead became Sridevi’s manager.
A Rift Between Sisters
But the sisters’ relationship took a hit after their mother’s death in 1996. Sridevi sued the hospital for a botched operation that led to their mother’s demise and won a compensation of ₹7.2 crore. Sridevi kept the entire amount for herself, which didn’t sit well with Srilata. To make matters worse, Sridevi also transferred their mother’s property to her name, prompting Srilata to take legal action.
Srilata claimed that their mother wasn’t mentally fit to sign the property transfer documents. The court eventually awarded Srilata ₹2 crore as her share. This legal battle further strained the sisters’ relationship.
A Distant Reconciliation
While reports suggest that Boony Kapoor attempted to mend the sisters’ relationship, it seemed like a tough task. However, when Sridevi received the Padma Shri in 2013, Srilata was seen celebrating with the family, leading many to believe that the sisters had finally put their differences behind them. But when Sridevi passed away, Srilata was noticeably absent from the prayer meet in Chennai. Srilata is currently living in Chennai with her husband, Satish. Notably, Rishi Kapoor had attended their wedding.
