The Asia Cup 2023 is scheduled to be held on the soil of Pakistan and Sri Lanka. All teams except Sri Lanka have announced their rosters for the Asian Cup. At the same time, Sri Lankan star players Dusmantha Chameera and Wanindu Hasaranga are injured and Kusal Perera and Avishka Fernando have tested positive for Covid-19. Now, just days before the Asian Cup, another Sri Lankan star player has been injured.

Sri Lanka has suffered a severe blow

Sri Lanka’s Asian Cup preparations have suffered another setback as fast bowler Dilshan Madushanka has been injured. Arjun de Silva, chairman of the Sri Lanka Cricket Medical Committee, told ESPNcricinfo that Madushanka picked up the injury during Friday’s warm-up match and may not be able to regain fitness ahead of the World Cup.

These players are already injured

Dusmantha Chameera is also reportedly missing the Asian Cup through injury and is finding it difficult to play in the early stages of the World Cup. Leg spinner Wanindu Hasaranga is also recovering from a hamstring injury and reports say he too is likely to miss part of the Asian Cup. The trio of Lahiru Kumara, Dusmantha Chameera and Madushanka performed well in the World Cup qualifiers in June and July and played a key role in the team’s success.

In the absence of pacemakers, Sri Lanka may have to rely on Kasun Rajitha, Pramod Madushan and Matisha Pathirana while having options in Dunith Velalage and Dushan Hemanta to replace Wanindu Hasaranga. Sri Lanka will start their Asian Cup season against Bangladesh on October 31st.
