SRH Loses to Delhi Capitals Due to Abhishek, Ishan’s Poor Form

The Delhi Capitals just handed the Sunrisers Hyderabad their second straight loss in the IPL 2025 season. This is the same team that smashed 286 runs in their opening match. But in their last two games, Hyderabad struggled to get going. Despite their powerful batting lineup, they only managed 163 runs against Delhi.

So, what went wrong for SRH? Let’s take a look at three key reasons they lost to Delhi.

Abhishek Sharma’s slump continues

Abhishek Sharma has failed to give Sunrisers Hyderabad a good start in IPL 2025. He scored just 24 runs against the Rajasthan Royals and 6 runs against the Lucknow Super Giants. Against Delhi, he only managed 1 run. His poor form is hurting Hyderabad, putting pressure on other batsmen when he gets out early.

Top order fails, team fails

This is a problem that plagued SRH in IPL 2024 too. Despite having two of the highest scores in IPL history, the team has a history of collapsing. Against Lucknow, Hyderabad’s top order failed, and the team struggled to bat. The same happened against Delhi, where Abhishek, Travis Head, and Ishan Kishan failed, and the team fell apart. In the IPL 2024 final, SRH’s top order failed, leading to a big loss against KKR.

Bowling attack falters under pressure

SRH has a strong bowling attack, but when the batsmen don’t score enough, the bowlers have to defend a small total. Against Delhi, even experienced bowlers like Mohammad Shami and Pat Cummins were expensive. Only Harshal Patel had an economy rate under 6. Shami, Cummins, and Sean Abbott were all expensive, while debutant Zeeshan Ansari took 3 wickets but leaked runs at over 10 per over.
