Sporting Lisbon is preparing to launch a new documentary that captures the emotional highs and pivotal moments of their historic 2024/25 season, which saw the club secure back-to-back national championships and a domestic double.
The forthcoming film promises to offer unprecedented images and intimate testimonies from key protagonists who shaped the team’s success. It revisits critical junctures, including the title-clinching match against V. Guimarães, which Sporting won 2-0, alongside the players’ mask celebration.
Club captain Morten Hjulmand expressed the profound impact of the season, describing the documentary as “chilling for us.” Star striker Viktor Gyökeres, whose contributions were central to the team’s triumphs, reflects on the challenges faced, stating in a segment of the film, “Yes, sometimes it’s easier to talk than to do.”
The documentary, expected to be released in the coming hours, revisits a range of significant events. These include the emotional farewell of coach Ruben Amorim, captured in locker room embraces, and the passionate pilgrimages of fans to the stadium. It also highlights the intense Lisbon derby and a dramatic injury-time goal by defender Eduardo Quaresma against Gil Vicente, which secured a crucial 2-1 victory.
Quaresma recounted the moment he scored the winning goal, saying, “It’s now!” He further reflected on the season, adding, “Despite all the distrust during that less good phase, I think it was the best season I’ve had here at Sporting.” His sentiment was echoed by coach Rui Borges, who emphasized the importance of self-belief, stating, “I just wanted them to believe in themselves.”
