Spencer Steer’s home run lifts the Reds past the Brewers 2-1

Spencer Steer hit the go-ahead homer in the eighth inning and Nick Lodolo pitched six dominant innings as the Cincinnati Reds beat the Milwaukee Brewers 2-1 on Sunday.

It was the last road game of the season for the Brewers, who fell 1 1/2 games behind the Philadelphia Phillies for the final NL wild card. Milwaukee ends the season at home and trails the Phillies and San Diego Padres in any tiebreaker because it lost both straight series during the regular season.

Hunter Renfroe homered for the Brewers, who failed to complete a four-game sweep of the Reds for the first time since 2003.

Renfroe, who tied his career high with four hits, including two homers and five RBIs on Saturday, homered on the first pitch of the second inning to give the Brewers a 1-0 lead.

For the Brewers, the Dominican Willy Adames 4-0. The Mexican Luis Urías 3-1. Puerto Rican Victor Caratini 3-0.
