Spanish forward Gonzalo Calsada has abruptly departed Portuguese top-tier club Estrela da Amadora, publicly citing “very serious and unjust events” that he claims prevented him from competing, a narrative that diverges from the club’s portrayal of a mutual contract rescission.
Calsada, 24, announced his departure on Instagram, where he made the strong allegations. He stated that after a series of “very serious and unjust events” that “harmed” him and “prevented” him from competing, an agreement was reached for the contract termination.
Estrela da Amadora, conversely, issued a statement confirming the contract revocation “by mutual agreement.” The club offered standard well-wishes to the Spanish player.
“The club thanks the athlete for his commitment, wishing him the greatest personal and sporting success in the future,” the Portuguese team stated on its official website.
Calsada’s tenure with Estrela da Amadora was notably brief and yielded minimal playing time. He joined the club this season from Spanish side Getafe.
He featured for only 13 minutes with the main squad in a Portuguese first league match against Santa Clara.
In his Instagram post, Calsada reflected on his experience, noting that his “first steps in the Portuguese first league, where I fulfilled a childhood dream, didn’t go as I expected.”
Despite the challenging circumstances, he expressed determination. “This situation will, without a doubt, be a learning experience for the future,” Calsada wrote.
He added that he has “already overcome serious injuries and this won’t shake me,” vowing to “prove it.”
Sources indicated that Calsada also played for the club’s U23 team and struggled to secure a place in the senior squad due to “strong competition.”
