A former Spanish racing prodigy, whose Formula 1 ambitions were cut short by financial constraints, has confessed to the killing of his father, Spanish media reported. Antolín González, 23, admitted to stabbing his 56-year-old father in the neck.
The incident occurred in June this year in a locality near Burgos, Spain. Police were called after a man was found with a stab wound.
González, a former racing driver, was identified as the attacker and apprehended shortly after. He has been held in pre-trial detention since his arrest.
His confession came approximately four months after the incident. Reports indicate González made the admission in an attempt to reduce his potential sentence.
He described a heated argument with his father, who he claimed was holding a dagger-like object, measuring 10 to 15 centimeters (4 to 6 inches) long. González stated they struggled, and he accidentally struck his father in the neck.
González was once considered a significant talent in Spanish motorsport. At 13, he became the youngest driver to command an F3 single-seater.
Despite promising results in Formula 3 and other racing categories, his dream of reaching Formula 1 ended. He cited a lack of necessary economic support as the reason for abandoning his career aspirations.
