Tourism is booming. It now makes up over 13% of the economy. This is a new record.
People in Spain are using the internet more to book trips. In fact, a recent survey found that almost 15% of all online purchases are for travel. This is more than tech or fashion.
A new report says that online travel sales will grow by 20% this year. On average, people will spend around 480 euros on travel online. This is 15% more than last year.
“Online travel bookings have grown by double digits for five years,” says Paula Rodríguez from Webloyalty. “Most of this spending is on hotel bookings, flights, and travel agencies.”
Who buys travel online?
Most online travel buyers are women – 55%. The majority are between 35 and 54 years old. More older people are buying travel online now.
People mostly use their phones to book travel – 69% of the time. Only 30% use computers and 1% use tablets.
Competition is tough
The travel industry is very competitive. Companies have to offer good deals to attract customers. But this can be a challenge, especially when prices are rising.
Webloyalty says that companies can make extra money by using “retail media”. This means showing ads to customers at the right time. It’s like having a personal assistant, but online.
In short, retail media helps travel companies reach customers at the right time. It’s a strategic way to make the most of marketing money and improve the customer experience.
