Spain Stuns with Comeback Victory to Reach Grand Final in San Francisco

Spain forced to come from behind to reach the Grand Final in San Francisco

Spain SailGP Team Looks to Overcome Weekend Slump and Make a Run for the Championship

The Spanish SailGP team will be relying on a strong performance in Sunday’s fleet races to overcome their weekend slump and stay in contention for the championship.

After the first day of racing in San Francisco, Spain sits seventh in the provisional standings, trailing France’s Quentin Delapierre by a significant margin. To keep France at bay and qualify for the Grand Final, Spain will need to make up ground in the weekend standings.

On Saturday, the Spain SailGP Team struggled to get off to a strong start, finding themselves behind the rest of the fleet. However, they showed their capabilities by climbing back to seventh and sixth place respectively in the second and third races. A fifth-place finish in the final race of the day allowed the team to stay in the middle of the Grand Prix table.

While the team will need to push hard to recover lost ground, they remain optimistic about their chances. "It was a tough day because of the starts, but then we sailed well on the race course," said Joan Cardona, tactician and grinder for the Spanish SailGP team. "Tomorrow we have to push hard and we hope to recover those points that will put us in the final."

With two fleet races remaining, the Spanish SailGP Team will need to put everything on the line to make up the gap and stay in the hunt for the championship.
