Spain, an alliance between picaresque and reality

It must be said that Spain is experiencing first of all, and this for the first time in 15 months, a decrease in Covid-19 patients, i.e. an incidence rate of 50 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, which is a very good news for this country which has been strongly affected by the epidemic.

Like many European countries, Spain is also affected by the increase in the price of electricity. It must be said that the government of Pedro Sanchez had lowered the Spanish VAT for energy from 21 to 10%. But the surge in electricity prices strongly affects Spanish households. Also, the other measure that the Spanish government wants to take concerns electricity suppliers.

Indeed, the government of Pedro Sanchez (PSOE, Spanish Socialist Party), has adopted a series of measures that would reduce the electricity bill of Spanish households. First of all by asking electricity companies to return 2.6 billion euros, i.e. profits from increases in gas prices on world markets, from March 2022.

More specifically, this measure applies to the question of electricity production. Indeed, the fixing of the international gas price influences the price of electricity. Thus, the increase in the price of gas leads to the increase in the price of electricity. This tipping effect benefits electricity producers, nuclear power stations and hydroelectric power stations, the benefits of which turn out to be unfair.

Thus the Spanish government intervenes with suppliers so that they return to the pot a substantial part of these profits, the upstream effect of which is purely virtual. For consumers, the government’s forecasts for this measure, combined with the Spanish VAT cut, could see a 30% reduction in consumers’ electricity bills.

Also the Spanish government is committed to helping families experiencing difficulties to pay their electricity bills, the power cut will be postponed, 10 months after the first unpaid. The Spanish economic crisis has seen, it must be said, the “rebirth” of slums.

Former journalist, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, has become the president of the autonomous community of Madrid, candidate of the Popular Party (Conservative), elected in August 2019 with the support of the nationalist party Vox, is Isabel Diaz Ayuso the Spanish Giogia Meloni? … In any case Isabel Diaz Ayuso comes very close through her statements from the president of the Italian nationalist party, Fratelli d’Italia.

The latest hit the mark: “Spain brought civilization to the American continent”, causing controversy, while she also advocates as quickly as possible a change of government for Spain. For now, she would appear as the rising star of the Spanish right, a certain similarity moreover with the rise of Giorgia Meloni in Italy, when, at the same time, the French presidential campaign had already started.

If the Catalan leader Carles Puigdemont, arrested by the Italian justice, has found his way back to his exile from beyond Quévrain, while Madrid demanded his extradition, talks continue between the Spanish Prime Minister, Pedro Sanchez, and the president of the Generality of Catalonia, Father Aragonès.

Gesture of the current Spanish government, the release of nine Catalan leaders last June, sentenced to prison terms by the conservative government of Mariano Rajoy in 2019, following the Catalan secession attempt in 2017. These nine separatists have also been pardoned by the government of Pedro Sanchez. In any case, the talks between Madrid and Barcelona are taking place under the sign of appeasement.
