The Sony Xperia 1 IV will be the next flagship of the Japanese brand and now a leak on Weibo by source ZACKBUKS is targeting a May release.
Its predecessor had a staggered launch that started in June (China) and lasted until August (worldwide) and it’s possible that something similar could happen with this year’s model.
As for the specifications, the source indicates that it will have a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1which is to be expected at this point. RAM options range from 12GB up to 16GB, while storage will be 256 or 512 GB.
Inside, we’ll find a 5,000mAh battery, which will support 45W PD fast charging, which is a significant improvement over the Xperia 1 III’s 4,500mAh with 30W charging.
The Xperia 1 IV’s camera array will feature the same ultra-wide sensor as the Xperia 1 III, a 12MP Sony Exmor RS IMX36312 sensor, while the main lens and telephoto cameras receive upgrades.
The configuration will likely be 12MP + 12MP + 12MP, as Sony often prioritizes sensor size before resolution. However, Sony could opt for 50MP and 48MP sensors with pixel binning, according to another leak.
One last rumor indicates that the 2022 flagship will be “great” for the aforementioned details (cameras, charging, etc.) and for its “improved design”. It may be time for Sony to update the design of its Xperia 1 phones.
