Son of D’Angelo, Angie Stone Grieves Double Loss in Seven Months

Michael Archer II, the son of music icons D’Angelo and Angie Stone, has broken his silence following the loss of both his parents within a seven-month period.

The 27-year-old released a statement to People on Tuesday, October 14, expressing his profound grief. "I appreciate your thoughts and prayers during these trying times as it has been a very rough and sad year for me," Michael said.

He continued by asking for continued support. "I ask that you please continue to keep me in your thoughts as it will not be easy, but one thing my parents taught me was to be strong, and I intend to do just that."

His father, soul legend D’Angelo, passed away on Tuesday in a New York hospital. The Grammy-winning artist had been battling pancreatic cancer privately.

D’Angelo, known for hits like "Lady" and "Brown Sugar," shared Michael with Angie Stone. He is also survived by another son and a daughter.

Angie Stone died in March at the age of 63. Her passing was the result of a car accident in Montgomery, Alabama.

D’Angelo’s family confirmed his death in a statement to Us Weekly. "The shining star of our family has put out their light in this life," they announced.

The family shared their heartbreak over his "long and courageous battle with cancer." They urged respect for their privacy while inviting fans to mourn and celebrate his musical legacy.

RCA Records, D’Angelo’s label, also paid tribute to the artist. "We are deeply saddened by the passing of D’Angelo," the label stated to Us.

RCA praised him as an "unparalleled visionary" who expertly blended soul, funk, gospel, R&B, and jazz with a hip hop sensibility. The label highlighted his three acclaimed albums, celebrated as masterpieces by fans and critics alike.

Michael had previously mourned his mother with an emotional tribute posted on Instagram in March. He expressed his deep love and admiration for her.

"Hi mom, I just wanted to say I love you," Michael wrote. "I know you’re up there enjoying your Goddess body 😂."

He added, "I want you to know how proud I am of the person you are… you never failed me ever… if I had to do it all again, I wouldn’t change a thing."

Michael also shared his gratitude for the lessons she taught him. "I hope one day to be as good to my children as you were to me," he concluded. "Just wanted you to know that from here, I’m taking care of it, I’m going to be alright… and LIVE FOREVER 🕊️ I love you mom."
